ahh horrible day yesterday :(
Went up to the farm in the drizzle, just intending to give Mckenzie a few carrots over the fence (becuase yesterday was official CBA day for my mum and I) it turns out that all the other horses had been brought in apart from Mckenzie and another horse called Lacey. Ang comes up to the car window "are you bringing Mck in?" mum: "am I heck! of course I'm not, it's only a bit of rain". Next thing we know Lacey had been brought in and I had to dtand in the rain for an hour with Mck while mum got the stable ready!

Rant on rollkur and the FEI
Yep, we all know the story, blue tongue, round table, another name change, more outrage, so today, for once, I’m not going to concentrate on the effects of rollkur (oops, I mean, LLLOWWW DEEEEPPP ANDD ROUUUUND THE NEW TECHNIQQQQQQQQQQQQQQUEEEE cuz I’m all for political correctness as you know –eye roll-) on the horse, but rather, the effect it seems to have had on Sjef’s playthi... I mean, the FEI.
Nobody seems to know what to do, or is it that us mere mortals can’t figure out whether they’re playing pin the blue tongue on the warmblood or hot potato hyperflexion? Or maybe some new game where they have to think of a new name for the same thing every 4 years? This new game is especially fun, why, you just throw a new party every 4 years, invite a few important people, then all your rollkur buddies, oh and of course, a few insignificant ‘classical’ people, to provide the nights entertainment and so it looks good to all those losers that aren’t at the top yet, hmmm... all right we’ll have to invite that Gerd what’s-his-name, shall we invite Dr Cook like we did last time? Naaah, horse friendly people hunt in packs, it’d be dangerous to have more than one or two.
But on a serious note (if I can manage to write a whole paragraph without making a sarcastic remark ;) what really is happening in the FEI? It doesn’t seem to be about the horse any more, is the weight of gold heavier than a guilty conscience, or do these people simply lack a conscience? Did they grow up with this strange lack of morals or did they just smell the money later on in life? Could it be a Jekyll and Hyde situation, thinking one thing but in reality doing another?
I think only time can answer those questions, and in some cases, it already has, if you look closely enough. Anyone else hear about when Watermill Scandic bled from the mouth in one training session and despite his grooms efforts to clean the ‘mess, up he ‘unfortunately’ had to end the training session (or maybe torture session would be more accurate, like seriously; GIVE THE RACK ANOTHER TURN) to do that you have to be seriously messed up in the head. End of. The man is obviously watching his horses (that could be quite easily described as train wrecks in slow motion) slowly wither and die and not giving a sh-t, as long as he gets a few wins.
And what with all this ‘redefinition’, as if the FEI hasn’t cocked it up already back in 2006; Oh we’ll just sweep it under the carpet again and hope the little classical ants don’t crawl back and ruin the foundations! What happened to my good friend common sense? Did they all sit there at the round table and go ‘ugh I cba thinking of a solution, should we just do what we did last time? Sjef what were you calling it the other day, erm... LDR that’s it, just call it that shall we, all right see you later everyone!’, But on the other hand I’m hoping we’ve just pierced a little hole in the big rollkur ship (or maybe oil tanker would be more accurate, there’s just as much money there, but rollkur being abolished would probably be far less messy than a sinking oil ship) that will soon sink it? I haven’t really been around for some of the strange phases the horse world seems to go through that I’ve been told about (unless you count how everyone seemed to go mad over treeless saddles back in 2005/5/6 or something, and when loads of American show jumpers went mikmar crazy) and maybe Rollkur is such a phase? I don’t know, but only time can tell, just hope for a happy ending!
